An Award Winning Country Garden |
|
Development of this sixteen acre property began in 1992. there are specimen trees, roses, (mainly English), perennials and shrubs in a seven acre informal park-like garden, and a five acre special purposes timber block.
A variety of ducks inhabit the ponds and older varieties of chooks and pigeons complete the bird life. Group planting and colour co-ordination are the plan, but nature has ways of often changing this. Development began at the end of 1992 when many trees were planted and the first gardens were dug.
The first pond "the long pond" was dug in 1993 and the second "the round pond" in 1996. The wood lot of 2,000 trees were planted in the winter of 1994 and will eventually be thinned to around 400 timber trees - there is to be a walking path through the trees. To date more than 500 roses and many flowering shrubs and perennials have been planted.
Dorothy has been a quilter since 1975 and in our home we live with over 50 quilts, many made with fabrics gathered on trips to New England, USA. We are happy to open our home to groups by appointment to promote living and decorating with quilts. Visitors come from afar as much to view Dorothy's quilts as for the garden.
