Botanical name: Tropaeolum majus 'Apricot Twist' Common name: Nasturtium 'Apricot Twist' Comments: The 87 species of annuals, perennials and twining climbersin this genus from Chile to Mexico, are admired for their brightly coloured flowers. This double peach / yellow flowered cultivar re-surfaced in an Irish garden a couple of years ago and was exhibited on the Irish Gardens Society stand manned by gardeners from Glasnevin at the Chelsea Flower Show in 1995. Named originally after a lady who worked at the gardens at the turn of the century it was lost to cultivation. The same sport re-appeared and was re-named. Keith Sangster of Thompson and Morgan (Thompson-Morgan.com) spotted this at Chelsea and within a year or eighteen months, Nasturtium 'Apricot Twist' had appeared on the list of T&M Young Plants in the UK.
Two other doubles are known. 'Hermine Grashoff' is a very old cultivar which is fireball red and another double spotted in India by Bleddyn Wynn Jones of Crug Farm Plants called 'Darjeeling Double' is also being offered in the UK.
Prefer moist, well drained soil in full sun or part-shade. Easy to propagate from cuttings (I find it will readily root in water).
