A Visit to the Auckland Regional Botanic Gardens
In late January, on a very typically hot summer's day, Bruce and I decided to visit the Auckland Regional Botanic Gardens in Manurewa (South Auckland). We were there to take a ramble through the perennial gardens with Jack Hobbs (of Maggie's Garden Show fame) and other interested people. These photos show a very small part of what we enjoyed seeing that day.
The rose gardens are not at their best at this time of the year and had survived a very large downpour the previous day. This was very interesting to us - it gave us a chance to see which roses can cope with these conditions (living in the catchment area in the Waitakere Ranges!).
Most of the roses I photographed were in the rose trials section - I believe they are planted in beds of 25.
